The organization was founded in 1985, on the impetus of a group of young nationals who gathered frequently during the early to mid-1980s, mainly for recreational purposes. Following a series of community gatherings held between 1984 and 1985, the association was incorporated under the laws of the State of Maryland in June 1986 and received its IRS 501 (c)(3) tax-exempt status in May 1987.
The mission of TTAB is to promote the general welfare and advancement, (social, cultural, educational, economical) of persons with origins, heritage, or friends of people from the islands of Trinidad and Tobago.
