Maryland Caribbean Heritage Month
National Caribbean American Heritage Month
- What it is:June is officially designated as Caribbean American Heritage Month nationally.
- Origin:The observance was established after President Bush issued a proclamation in 2006, following efforts by Dr. Claire Nelson and others to highlight the heritage and contributions of Caribbean Americans.
Maryland's Caribbean Heritage Month
- When it is:The Governor annually proclaims the month of August as Caribbean Heritage Month in Maryland.
- Purpose:The proclamation encourages educational and cultural organizations to hold events and ceremonies to properly observe and recognize the impact of Caribbean Americans in Maryland.
- Who celebrates:Maryland's Governor's Office of Community Initiatives (GOCI) actively promotes August as Caribbean Heritage Month, celebrating the culture, history, and diverse contributions of Caribbean Americans to the state.

Soup Cooking Competition
What you should know:
This is our first soup cooking competition at the park.
- You are welcome to prep some items prior to coming. (for example, cooking split peas).
- Some basic ingredients will be provided. (you can bring you own secret ingredients).
We are asking anyone who is able to, please donate some of the basic ingredients. (Split peas, corn, carrots, pumpkin, garlic, flavor pepper, green seasoning). Participants should arrive 1 hour early (12 pm) to get started with prepping. Cooking will begin at 1pm. If you are interested please sign up below: https://form.jotform.com/251715684373160
